Everything Equally
"Everything Equally" was a group exhibition held at Touchstones, Rochdale, from 31 March - 24 June 2007 The photographers were brought together by Redeye's Summer Exhibition Workshops, and the theme was inspired by the idea of photography as a democratic medium, and the camera's ability to represent everything equally. In responding to the theme, I reflected on life's inequalities; from global issues such as human trafficking and waged ‘slavery’, though to the everyday tensions arising from conflicting values and access to finite resources. I recalled the extract from George Orwell’s satirical allegory Animal Farm: “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others”, and reinterpreted by adding a question mark: Everything Equally?
